Types of Rehabilitation

On-going and newly diagnosed patients with chronic pulmonary conditions undergo education on self-symptom management, proper medication techniques, lung disease education and embark in a pulmonary rehabilitation exercise regime in order to alleviate symptoms of dyspnoea, improve psychosocial behaviour and increase quality of life.

This multidisciplinary intervention includes components of health education, advice on cardiovascular risk reduction, stress management and physical exercise. All these come together and aim to improve cardiac function, quality of life and make daily life activities easier in individuals with heart disease.

Exercise Referral
This is a specific and formalised programme whereby a medical professional refers a person to a supervised exercise regime. The aim is to improve and maintain the health and mental well-being of inactive adults who are at risk of developing chronic disease. Some examples of suitability to exercise referral is if you have a neurological condition (e.g. parkinson’s disease), osteoporosis, diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol or you are pregnant.
