Cereal bars – healthy or unhealthy?

Polina Hadjikyriacou – Clinical Dietician writes:

Accidentally skipping breakfast during the morning rush and grabbing a quick snack on the move makes cereal bars an easy solution.

Although often thought of as a healthy snack option, this is not always the case, with many varieties containing surprisingly high amounts of sugar.

It is fine to enjoy cereal bars as part of a healthy and balanced diet. For many of us, they make a simple snack that can easily be thrown into a bag if you are on the move. However, it is always worth checking the label of your cereal bar before you consume it – make sure that you are aware of what you are eating and can make an informed choice.

As always, fruit provides a cheap and healthy choice. Low in saturated fat, with no added sugar, fruit is the perfect solution to satisfy a sugar craving. For those of you, who enjoy spending time in the kitchen; try to make your own bar!
